The snowy Alpamayo, located in the mountains of the Ancash region, is considered one of the jewels of the Cordillera Blanca and a desired goal of lovers of mountaineering and mountain tourism. In 1966, 52 years ago, the prestigious magazine Alpinismus awarded it the title of “The most beautiful mountain in the world” and there are plenty of reasons for such a deserved distinction.
Huaraz (3090m) – Cashapampa (2900m) – Llamacorral (3760m):
We picked up our clients from the hostel in Huaraz and transferred by private bus from Huaraz to Cashapampa (2900m), which will take us 3 hours, where a muleteer and donkeys await us to transport climbing and camping equipment after the start of the trek through the Santa ravine. Cross to the Llamacorral camp where we will make our camp (approx. trek hours 4 – 5 h).
Llamacorral (3760m) – Jatuncocha Lagoon – Arhuaycocha Creek – Alpamayo Base Camp (4100m):
From the Llamacorral Camp, after a good breakfast, we leave and head towards the Santa Cruz ravine, passing through the Icchicocha and Jatuncocha lagoons until we reach the detour of the Arhuaycocha ravine from where we ascend along a zigzagging bridle path until we reach the base camp of the Alpamayo where we will spend our second day of camping (approximately 6 hours of trekking).
Alpamayo base camp (4100m) – Morrena – Col del Alpamayo (5300m).
This day our porters will be in charge of transporting our technical climbing and camping equipment and we leave to begin to ascend the moraine, on the way we will find very rocky places and these trails accompanied by polished granite rocks and after overcoming them we will enter the glacier, We enter through the easy ramp to find ourselves in C1 of Alpamayo. (Camp 1 – 5300 m.a.s.l.).
Col del Alpamayo (5300m) – Cumbre del Alpamayo (5947m) – Cb:
This day from Camp 1 we will descend with our clients to the base of the wall, later we will ascend until we reach the lowest part of the rimaya, in this part we will advance through an area with a large uniform slope of about 55º – 60º and we will reach a steepest part of 85º and 90º at a height of 4 meters, continuing along the original channel (65º – 75º) we find some small mixed sections until we reach the Cumbre summit – Col.
(approx. Ascension hours 8 – 10 h).
Cb. Alpamayo (4100m) – Llamacorral (3760m) – Cashapampa (2900m):
This day our muleteers will load our technical and personal luggage on the donkeys and we leave from Cb Alpamayo heading back to the Quebrada Santa Cruz, we will pass through the two lagoons of Jatuncocha – Icchincocha, to be passed by the Llamacorral camp, from this point we will be We walked downhill until we reached Cashapampa, where a bus from Our Company “Enrique Expedition Tours” awaits us and will take us to the city of Huaraz – Hotel.
Departure by bus Huaraz – Lima.
Transfer from the Hostel to the “Cruz del Sur” bus terminal and departure from Huaraz
